Many thought it referred to the higher performance engines which had red cylinder head covers.

But noooo!

It referred to red headed women ...

The way he told it "when they are good,

they are really, really good;

but they can be a bit of a maintenance issue

- and as a result -

when they are not so good, they are horrible!"
